PTI Leader Claims Imran Khan’s Presence in Power Would Have Deterred US-Israel Attack on Iran

Senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf figure says former prime minister’s leadership would have strengthened regional deterrence against aggression.

Amir Dogar, a prominent leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has claimed that if PTI founder Imran Khan had remained in power, Israel and the United States would not have dared to launch attacks on Iran.

The statement comes amid heightened regional tensions following reported Israeli and US strikes on Iranian targets, which have sparked widespread condemnation across Pakistan and the Muslim world.

Strong defence of Imran Khan:

Speaking to the media, Dogar asserted that Imran Khan’s independent foreign policy and firm stance on Muslim issues would have altered the regional power dynamics.

“If the founder of PTI had been in power, Israel and the United States would not have dared to attack Iran, Dogar said.

The remarks reflect PTI’s continued narrative that Khan’s ouster in 2022 through a no-confidence vote-which the party calls a “foreign conspiracy”-weakened Pakistan’s global standing and its ability to support fellow Muslim nations.

Opposition Uses Iran Crisis to Target Government:

Imran Khan, currently imprisoned on multiple charges that his party describes as politically motivated, remains a highly polarising figure in Pakistan. His supporters frequently contrast his foreign policy-marked by vocal criticism of US drone strikes and closer ties with countries like China, Russia, and Turkey-with the approach of successive governments.

Dogar’s comments come as opposition parties, particularly PTI, intensify pressure on the current coalition government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accusing it of compromising on national sovereignty and failing to respond effectively to regional crises.

Analysts note that such statements are part of PTI’s broader strategy to mobilise public support by linking domestic political grievances with international developments, especially those involving Muslim countries.

The recent escalation between Iran, Israel, and the United States has triggered protests and strong statements from political and religious leaders across Pakistan. Many view the attacks as part of a pattern of aggression against the Islamic world.

Pakistan’s government has condemned the strikes and called for de-escalation, while emphasising diplomatic efforts. However, opposition voices, including PTI leaders, argue that a stronger, more assertive leadership is needed to protect Pakistan’s interests and support regional allies.
