Israel is not implementing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza

Palestinian official Mustafa Barghouti accuses Trump administration of failing to enforce US-brokered truce as alleged Israeli violations mount, civilian suffering intensifies.

A prominent Palestinian politician has sharply criticised Israel for what he describes as systematic violations of the fragile ceasefire in Gaza, warning that the US-brokered agreement is at risk of collapse amid ongoing Israeli military actions and a worsening humanitarian crisis.

Mustafa Barghouti, secretary-general of the Palestinian National Initiative, said Israel has repeatedly breached the terms of the ceasefire agreement concluded in late 2025, resulting in hundreds of Palestinian deaths and injuries since it took effect.

“Israel is not implementing what was agreed about the ceasefire agreement,” Barghouti stated in recent remarks. He highlighted that Israeli forces have carried out thousands of violations, claiming the actions appear designed to “increase suffering” among Gaza’s population.

Mounting violations and civilian toll:

According to Barghouti, since the ceasefire began in October 2025, Israeli violations have exceeded 2,300 incidents, resulting in the deaths of at least 757 Palestinians, including children, and more than 2,300 injuries.

Palestinians in Gaza report continued restrictions on aid movement, military incursions into civilian areas, and strikes that have disrupted reconstruction efforts and daily life in the devastated enclave. Humanitarian conditions remain dire despite initial improvements following the truce, with many residents still struggling for access to clean water, adequate shelter, and medical care.

Barghouti questioned the effectiveness of the US role in the agreement, pointing to President Donald Trump’s failure to pressure Israel into compliance.

“None of that is happening,” he said, referring to the promised implementation of ceasefire terms. “On the contrary, people’s suffering is increasing.”

Calls for international accountability:

The Palestinian official urged the international community to impose sanctions on Israel to enforce adherence to the ceasefire and international law. He echoed long-standing Palestinian demands for accountability, asking, “Who is going to hold Israel accountable?”

Barghouti’s comments come as concerns grow over the stability of the truce. Analysts and Palestinian factions have warned that continued violations could lead to a resumption of full-scale hostilities, further exacerbating one of the most devastating chapters in the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Gaza Ceasefire Stalls Amid Ongoing Tensions and Disputes:

The Gaza ceasefire, heavily promoted by the Trump administration, initially included phased hostage releases, increased humanitarian aid, and partial Israeli withdrawals. However, progress on broader commitments-including reconstruction and moves toward a political solution-has stalled.

Palestinian groups, including Hamas, have similarly described the ceasefire as “meaningless” while Israeli attacks and restrictions persist. Israel has maintained that its actions are necessary for security, though it has not publicly addressed the specific scale of violations alleged by Palestinian officials.

As regional dynamics shift following other ceasefires in the area, the situation in Gaza remains a focal point of tension. Barghouti and other Palestinian leaders continue to stress that without genuine enforcement mechanisms and pressure on Israel, any peace efforts will remain superficial.
