Suspect found with loaded pistol, prohibited ammunition and later a cache of weapons at home while apparently monitoring security preparations.
A 38-year-old California man was arrested on Sunday at President Donald Trump’s golf course in the Los Angeles area after authorities said he was observed walking the grounds, taking photographs and videos, and appearing to monitor security-planning activities ahead of a scheduled presidential visit.
Jeanine John Taele, of Downey, was detained at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes following a report from plainclothes federal agents. Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department recovered a 16-round magazine containing hollow-point ammunition from his pants pocket. A subsequent search of his vehicle, parked in the golf course lot, turned up a loaded pistol with a round in the chamber and an additional loaded magazine also containing hollow-point rounds.
Taele was booked on suspicion of carrying a concealed firearm and possession of armour-piercing or otherwise prohibited ammunition. Authorities also determined he was already under investigation by the El Segundo Police Department in connection with a robbery case from November 2025.
Additional Weapons and Materials Recovered During Home Search:
Recognising potential security implications, detectives working with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force obtained and executed a search warrant at Taele’s residence the following day. Investigators recovered an illegally modified AR-platform rifle, a .45-calibre pistol, body armour, high-capacity magazines, bulk ammunition for both pistols and rifles, two radio signal devices, and multiple notebooks containing what officials described as “concerning statements.”
The precise nature of those statements has not been publicly detailed. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated that there was “no credible threat” to the community or to the president’s visit.
Taele later faced additional charges, including possession of a large-capacity magazine, possession of a short-barrelled rifle or shotgun, and a count of second-degree robbery linked to the earlier El Segundo investigation. He pleaded not guilty. Court proceedings continued, with bail conditions and further hearings scheduled in the weeks that followed.

Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles, perched on coastal cliffs in the affluent Rancho Palos Verdes area south of the city, has hosted previous events and visits.
US law enforcement agencies, including the Secret Service and local partners, maintain continuous monitoring of potential threats to the president and high-profile sites. California’s strict firearms regulations prohibit certain types of ammunition, large-capacity magazines and modified short-barrelled rifles, contributing to the range of charges filed in this case.
Authorities have not publicly linked Taele to any organised group or specific plot beyond the observed behaviour and items recovered. The investigation remains focused on the weapons violations, the prior robbery allegation, and the contents of the notebooks recovered from his home.
