Israeli emergency services rushed to the scenes as rescue teams searched rubble under red-tinged floodlights, with no reported deaths but widespread damage to apartment blocks and civilian infrastructure.
The barrage is widely seen as Tehran’s retaliation for recent Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear and energy targets, including the Natanz facility, as the three-week-old war spirals into direct attacks on population centres and strategic sites.
Sirens, Explosions, and Israel’s Vow of Crushing Retaliation:
The attack unfolded shortly after midnight local time, with air-raid sirens blaring across southern Israel. Residents described hearing loud explosions followed by the sound of buildings collapsing. One witness in Arad told local media the sky lit up before missiles impacted nearby apartment complexes.
This is the first time Iranian missiles have struck so close to Dimona since the war began on 28 February with US-Israeli pre-emptive strikes that killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The towns of Dimona (population 35,000) and Arad (25,000) are civilian communities located near the Negev Desert nuclear complex.
