Gunfire rocks Gaza streets as fragile ceasefire frays further
Share This:

Two Palestinians killed, several others wounded in Israeli forces’ shooting incidents across Khan Younis and Gaza City, amid ongoing violations of the October 2025 truce.

Israeli forces opened fire on vehicles and civilians in separate incidents across the Gaza Strip on Monday, killing at least two Palestinians and wounding several others, local sources and medical officials reported.

The shootings occurred in Khan Younis in the south and in Gaza City, highlighting persistent tensions and repeated violations of the fragile ceasefire agreement that took effect in October 2025.

In Khan Younis, Israeli troops fired on two vehicles near Street 5, killing one Palestinian from the al-Bureij refugee camp and wounding four others, according to local sources cited by WAFA news agency.

Separately, forces targeted an electric bicycle in Gaza City, resulting in additional injuries. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes with armoured vehicles positioned in urban areas as residents navigated damaged streets littered with debris.

Ceasefire breaches increase following October 2025 agreement:

The latest deaths bring the total number of Palestinians killed by Israeli fire since the ceasefire began to well over 700, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry and monitoring groups. Hundreds more have been wounded in what Palestinian officials and rights groups describe as systematic breaches of the truce.

Monday’s incidents follow a pattern of gunfire, drone strikes, and artillery shelling often occurring near the so-called “yellow line” or in areas from which Israeli forces were supposed to have withdrawn under the agreement.

In one recent related event, Israeli gunfire struck a vehicle carrying World Health Organization staff on Salah al-Din Street east of Khan Younis, killing a WHO driver and wounding others, prompting the organisation to suspend certain operations.

Palestinian resistance factions have accused Israeli forces of using the fragile truce period to consolidate control over parts of the territory and restrict civilian movement, while Israel has justified its actions as responses to perceived threats or militant activity.

Fragile Ceasefire Under Strain as Violence and Humanitarian Crisis Persist:

Residents in affected areas reported gunfire echoing through densely populated streets with damaged buildings and makeshift shelters. Medical teams rushed the wounded to hospitals already under severe strain due to years of conflict and shortages. Gaza’s Health Ministry warned that continued violations could derail efforts toward a permanent resolution, including the second phase of the ceasefire involving troop withdrawals and increased humanitarian aid.

International mediators, including the United States, Egypt, and Qatar, have urged restraint, but ongoing incidents continue to erode trust. Human rights groups have called for independent investigations into shootings involving civilians and aid workers, saying such attacks worsen the humanitarian crisis.

As night fell, families in Khan Younis and Gaza City mourned the dead while bracing for further escalation, with fear spreading across communities. The October 2025 ceasefire, once offering hope after years of war, is now increasingly seen as fragile due to repeated violations and continued violence.
