Singapore police are investigating an alleged assault after a 73-year-old man was shoved to the ground at a food court for briefly patting a young girl’s head. Elderly Singapore Man Shoved After Patting Girl’s Head:
The confrontation occurred on the afternoon of 15 August at a coffee shop inside Roxy Square mall along East Coast Road. According to accounts from the elderly man’s family and police statements, the 73-year-old, identified in local reports as Yeo Song Khoon, was walking through the crowded eatery while holding onto tables for support. He has difficulty walking and carries previous leg and hip injuries. As he passed a table where a woman and a young girl were seated, he reached out and patted the child on the head.
The woman, believed to be the girl’s mother, immediately pushed his hand away. A man who had briefly left the table-widely reported as the girl’s father-returned, confronted the elderly man, and after a short exchange shoved him, causing him to fall to the floor. Relatives nearby helped him up. The younger man later sat with Yeo, apologised and offered him a drink, according to a social-media post by the family.
Yeo, who has sold wanton noodles at the stall for more than four decades, later told local media he had found the girl “very adorable.” “Old people like to pat young children’s heads,” he said. He initially felt well enough but developed significant back pain hours later and began taking painkillers. He has indicated he does not wish to pursue the matter aggressively, saying he does not want to cause trouble, though his family lodged a police report and sought public help identifying those involved.

On 16 August, Singapore police confirmed they had identified a 40-year-old man in connection with the assault of the 73-year-old at the East Coast Road location around 4.40pm the previous day.
