Joyful wedding celebrations in rural West Java ended in profound tragedy on Sunday when a pickup truck ferrying guests home was violently crushed between two larger trucks on a busy coastal highway, killing 13 people and injuring five others.
The accident occurred in the afternoon on the northern coastal highway near Kiajaran Kulon village in Indramayu regency. The victims-part of a wedding party-had just attended a ceremony in the neighbouring Parean village and were returning home when the collision happened, according to local traffic police chief Undang Syarif Hidayat.
Police and witnesses described a devastating scene: the smaller pickup truck was sandwiched between the two heavier vehicles, with the force of the impact ejecting multiple passengers onto the road.
