Armed police arrest 30-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after assault on residential street in Brierfield, Lancashire.

A 17-year-old girl was seriously injured after being stabbed in the neck in a daylight attack on a residential street in Brierfield, Lancashire, prompting a swift response by armed police.

The incident occurred around 3:06pm on Friday on Wood Street, where the teenager was assaulted and suffered a stab wound to the back of her neck. Emergency services rushed to the scene, and the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. She is currently receiving treatment and is able to communicate with medical staff and investigators.

Lancashire Police said armed officers were deployed following reports of the stabbing. A 30-year-old local man was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.

Community shock in small Lancashire town:

Brierfield, a small town near Nelson and Burnley in the Pendle area, saw a significant police presence with multiple vehicles and a cordon established around the scene. Residents described the attack as shocking given the time of day and the busy residential location.

A police spokesperson said: “We were called at 3:06pm today to Wood Street, Brierfield, to a report of stabbing. It was reported that a 17-year-old girl had been assaulted and suffered a stab injury to her neck.”

Extra patrols have been stepped up in the area to reassure the local community, and officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant footage to come forward.
