Hezbollah claims attacks on Israeli military positions in southern Lebanon

Lebanese group says it targeted Israeli troops and vehicles as cross-border clashes continue despite fragile truce efforts in the region.

Hezbollah announced on Monday that its fighters carried out a series of attacks against Israeli military positions in southern Lebanon, amid ongoing Israeli operations in the area.

The Iran-backed group said in multiple statements that it targeted Israeli troops, tanks, bulldozers and military vehicles in several border villages and towns, using rockets, guided missiles, artillery shells and drones.

Frequent Border Confrontations Continue:

Hezbollah claimed operations in areas including Yohmor al-Shaqif, Haddatha, Bayada, Rashaf, Ainata and other locations in southern Lebanon. The group said one strike hit an Israeli Merkava tank and another targeted military bulldozers with guided missiles, claiming “confirmed hits.”

The claims come as Israeli forces continue ground operations and artillery strikes in southern Lebanon, with reports of fresh incursions and evacuation orders issued to residents in several villages.

Lebanese state media and security sources reported Israeli strikes on multiple towns in the south on Monday, including areas near Tyre, with casualties reported among civilians and security personnel.

Ceasefire Under Strain:

The latest exchanges highlight the fragility of a partial ceasefire agreement reached earlier between the two sides. Both Israel and Hezbollah have repeatedly accused each other of violating the truce, with near-daily incidents reported along the border.

Hezbollah has maintained that its attacks are in response to Israeli violations and the continued presence of Israeli troops in Lebanese territory. Israel, on the other hand, says its operations are aimed at dismantling Hezbollah infrastructure and preventing attacks on its northern communities.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has expressed deep concern over the repeated violations, urging both sides to exercise maximum restraint and return to full compliance with the ceasefire terms.

As the situation remains highly volatile, fears are growing of a renewed full-scale escalation that could further destabilise Lebanon and the wider region.
