20 Jailed Over Historic Child Sexual Exploitation in Yorkshire.

Group convicted of multiple rapes and abuses against young girls in Kirklees between 1995 and 2003.

Twenty people, including 19 men and one woman, have been sentenced to a combined total of 277 years in prison for the systematic sexual abuse and exploitation of young girls in West Yorkshire’s Kirklees area.

The convictions, finalised at Leeds Crown Court following six separate trials, relate to offences committed primarily in Dewsbury and Batley against three victims, one of whom was just 12 years old when the abuse began. The crimes spanned from 1995 to 2003.

Delayed Justice Over Decades:

West Yorkshire Police described the investigation as a major operation into “appalling” abuse. The perpetrators were convicted of dozens of serious offences, including multiple counts of rape, indecent assault, supplying drugs, false imprisonment, and controlling prostitution.

Sentences ranged from several years to a maximum of 28 years for one of the lead offenders. Among those jailed is Donna Lynn, the only woman in the group. Police named all 20 individuals publicly after reporting restrictions were lifted on Tuesday.

Detectives praised the courage of the victims, who had to relive their trauma across multiple trials spanning 2023 to 2025.

Pattern of grooming and exploitation:

This latest case adds to a long list of group-based child sexual exploitation convictions in Yorkshire and other parts of northern England over the past decade. Many previous high-profile cases, particularly in Rotherham, Rochdale, and Huddersfield, involved organised grooming of vulnerable girls, often from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Critics and victims’ advocates have repeatedly highlighted systemic failures by police and social services in earlier decades, including concerns over political correctness and fears of being labelled racist when dealing with offenders from specific ethnic communities. Many of those convicted in the Kirklees case are of Pakistani heritage.

West Yorkshire Police said the sentences send a clear message that abusers will eventually be brought to justice, no matter how much time has passed.

The force continues to investigate other historic cases of child sexual exploitation across the region as part of broader efforts to address these crimes.
