A $1.5 billion deal has been signed for the Trump International Hotel & Tower on Queensland’s Gold Coast, with developers claiming the 91-storey, 340-metre skyscraper will become Australia’s tallest building.

Trump Tower Gold Coast: Australia’s Future Tallest Skyscraper:

A major new chapter in Australia’s skyline is taking shape on the Gold Coast. On 14 February 2026, Queensland developer Altus Property Group signed a final agreement with the Trump Organization at Mar-a-Lago, Florida, to deliver the Trump International Hotel & Tower Gold Coast-the brand’s first project on Australian soil.

The proposed 91-storey tower at 3 Trickett Street, Surfers Paradise, would rise to approximately 340 metres and feature a six-star resort hotel, around 270 luxury apartments, high-end retail, and a private beach club. Developers say the mixed-use complex, priced at just under A$1.5 billion for design, engineering, construction and fit-out, would surpass the current national height record held by the Q1 Tower (322.5 metres) in the same suburb.

Altus and Trump Organization Reveal Luxury Gold Coast Tower Details:

David Young, chief executive of Altus Property Group, confirmed the signing in a detailed public statement and LinkedIn post. He described the project as one he had pursued for nearly two decades, beginning with a cold call to Ivanka Trump in 2007. “We are now deeply into a process of design, engineering, construction and fit-out that will cost a shade under $1.5 billion and bring the world’s pre-eminent hotel-resort brand to our shores,” Young said.

The Trump Organization’s website now features a dedicated page for the Gold Coast tower, describing it as “a world-class luxury hotel, exclusive residences, and exceptional lifestyle amenities” in the heart of Surfers Paradise. Eric Trump publicly highlighted the project on social media, calling it a proud addition to the family’s global portfolio and Australia’s future tallest building.

Features outlined by the developer include a six-star resort hotel with 285 rooms, premium apartments priced from around $5 million, Michelin-starred dining, lavish bars, 24/7 butler and concierge services, beach cabanas, and a private beach club. The design will follow the Trump Organization’s global manual used in projects in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, with Altus stressing a “tasteful and expensive” aesthetic aimed at attracting high-net-worth international visitors.

Trump Tower Gold Coast: Local Ownership, Global Brand:

The Gold Coast has long been Australia’s high-rise capital outside Melbourne and Sydney. The Q1 Tower has held the title of the nation’s tallest building since its completion in 2005. Surfers Paradise already hosts several supertalls, and the suburb’s beachfront corridor is a magnet for both domestic and international tourism.

The 3 Trickett Street site has sat largely vacant for more than a decade. It was sold in 2019 for $56 million to a consortium that secured approval for an 89-storey tower. Altus Property Group, established in 2023 with Young as sole director, is now advancing the Trump-branded version.

Young’s career spans pubs, nightclubs, and property development on the Gold Coast. As first reported by ABC News, he was declared bankrupt twice-once in 1991 in Cairns related to a brewing business and again in 2010 in Surfers Paradise while working as a management consultant. He has described stepping back after the Global Financial Crisis to troubleshoot other projects before returning to development.

The Trump Organization has expanded internationally through licensing and management agreements rather than direct ownership in many markets. This Gold Coast project follows that model: the building remains fully Australian-owned, with an Altus subsidiary directing fit-out decisions within Trump design guidelines.
